General Safety tips for Do it Your Self Projects

When ever you embark on any project make sure you have taken all the precautions needed to guarantee that you will not be fatally injured. Based on the project you need to figure out what safety equipment is needed. Basic safety apparel would be: work gloves either leather or plastic depending on the job, safety glasses they have regular looking glasses and goggles that cover your whole eye area, work belt to keep your out fit tight you don't want any loose clothing that can get caught on anything and boots steel toe would be the best just in case you drop something on your foot.

Roof Repair

We have been mopping this roof for 2 days now, and let me tell you it's not an easy job.  Roofing cement is no joke. One of my good buddies calls it roof dope.  I like the name and think it fits.  Whatever that stuff touches -- it's not coming off.  If you feel like you want to touch up your own roof with roofing cement, be prepared to throw away the clothes that you wear.  Also, wear rubber gloves at all times.

Winter is coming to the Chicagoland area! Don't wait until its too late to do repairs to your roof. Flat Roof Contractors

# 1 Home Repair Problem Solver

I get a lot of calls from people that have issues with something around their house but I don't do that kind of work. Even though I can't fix their problem my solution skills help them out. Here is an example, a woman called me a couple of weeks ago and told me her washer stopped working. I told her I don't fix washers and at the same time I've had my washer fixed and learned the ends and outs of washer repair. First I told her if its not spinning your belt must be broke and if your belt is broke the transmission is not to far behind from breaking also. Then I proceeded to tell her that you can buy a used washer for $150. Then something clicked in my head to ask her how old the washer was, she answered 3 years. Then I said your best bet would probably be to get an extended warranty so the washer machine will be covered for a long period of time. She answered that's exactly what I'm going to do. Didn't fix the problem but came up with the solution.

What to do when you use a screw instead of a nail

battery power is the best depending on the job

Having enough screws is always good

Nails are quick and less work but if you want it to be precise I would recommendusing a screw. When you drill a screw use a pre dill bit that's a little bit smaller than the screw, this will stop what ever you're screwing into from splitting or cracking. I have seen this happen to many times. Also when you can use a screw use it, sometimes you just want to glue it but that's not always a good idea. Screws are usually forever and that's what I like about it.

Home Depot

Most of my life this year has been at Home Depot getting supplies and tools.  I love Home Depot because of their return policy.  Just got a cool dremel tool to take off some old caulk in a bathroom and
some plastic to line the ceiling.  For some reason the ceiling is a haven for mold and the paint is hard to clean.  Also a vent fan needs to be installed in the bathroom.  Well back to work!

Home Improvement Projects dos and don'ts

What color is best for your Kitchen

Preparation is the key when doing any project. Please tarp the floor when doing any home improvement projects, I have seen to many things ruined when the contractor didn't have good preparation. At least do it when you're using anything liquid on your house or anyone else house. It just saves so much time and agony.
